Scammers are using Google Ads to fake crypto recovery service Revoke Cash. The scam, uncovered by blockchain forensics firm ScamSniffer, consists of misleading ads that aim to trick users into revealing personal information or making financial transfers.
Fake Websites Target Crypto Users
Individuals looking for crypto recovery solutions are coming across ads that appear to be from Revoke Cash. These ads may appear trustworthy due to their legitimate domain names, but they redirect users to fake websites. ScamSniffer notes that these fake sites are designed to look like Revoke Cash, making it difficult for users to spot the scam.
This isn’t the first time scam sites have been promoted using Google Ads. Criminals have previously used Google Ads to promote a fake version of a crypto platform that facilitates airdrop token trading.
An Unforgettable New Year
Despite being exposed, the scam continued into the new year, with users reporting losses of $3 million due to the wallet draining tool. ScamSniffer identified additional scams on New Year’s Day, detailing users’ losses. This revealed that a total of 10,072 fake websites were used to steal funds from the crypto industry throughout 2023.
Google’s Response to Fraudulent Activity
Google has cracked down on the rise of crypto scams on its advertising platform. In April, it filed a lawsuit against two Chinese individuals for developing deceptive investment apps. The apps were downloaded nearly 100,000 times before being taken down, causing significant financial losses. Google’s General Counsel Halimah DeLaine Prado emphasized that the lawsuit is part of an effort to protect users and deter potential scammers.
Google continues to fight to increase user safety and prevent scams. It is important for users to be careful of such scams and only get information from trusted sources. Individuals looking for crypto asset-related services can minimize risks by going directly to the official websites of trusted platforms.
