United States government, Bitcoin in 2025 $95,058.7 Doesn’t plan to buy. According to Galaxy Digital’s research unit, the government will focus on managing existing Bitcoin assets and improve reserve policies. Bitcoin reserve strategies continue to be debated.
Management of Existing Bitcoin Assets
Galaxy Research President Alex Thorn stated that the US government will focus on effectively managing the 183,850 BTC it currently owns. “The government will refrain from purchasing Bitcoin but will continue to build a reserve with its existing assets,” Thorn said.
This US strategy is also linked to efforts to shape an expanded Bitcoin reserve policy. The “Bitcoin Act 2024,” proposed by Wyoming Senator Cynthia Lummis, could authorize the Treasury Department to purchase 200,000 BTC per year. If accepted, it may be possible to maintain a total reserve of 1 million BTC for twenty years.
Galaxy analyst “JW” argues that this type of reserve strategy can serve as an example for other countries. The analyst stated that a strong US stance on Bitcoin will be carefully watched by other countries with large sovereign wealth funds.
Opinions on Bitcoin Reserve Policy
CryptoQuant CEO Ki Young Ju takes a more cautious stance on the global implications of Bitcoin reserve policies. Young Ju said, “The transition to the Bitcoin standard could weaken the global dominance of the US dollar. “This may lead to a loss of confidence in the dollar-based system,” he said.
On the other hand, some market observers find the effects of this US approach positive. The possibility of five Nasdaq 100 companies and several countries adding Bitcoin to their balance sheet assets is also highlighted. However, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba stated that the US’s uncertain Bitcoin policies influenced his decisions.
The US’s Bitcoin strategy could affect not only cryptocurrency markets but also global economic balances. This decision may lead other countries to consider Bitcoin as a strategic asset.
